It was the same not only according to the trade show organiser's statistics that showed a high share of international guests, but also at the pig pen technology on show at Schauer Agrotronic's trade show stand. The pig farming sector is in international flux, and the development towards bigger, more professional structures is continuing apace. In this context, topics such as the "improvement of productivity with efficient rearing and feeding systems" and the further development of animal welfare are playing a decisive role.
From the German point of view, farmers are occupied with the development of a greater level of animal welfare in the farrowing pen. Schauer presented three system solutions which correspond to the demand for a greater freedom of movement for the sows as well as the protection requirement for people and piglets. The CombiBox is a farrowing pen sized 5.5 m2 which generally enables the closing of the farrowing crate in the initial days of the piglets' lives and which can be opened afterwards. The new "BeFree" farrowing pen is a free farrowing pen sized 6 m2 which is generally intended for free farrowing but also enables the closing of a booth similar to a farrowing crate with sows that pose a problem. The "WelCon" farrowing pen is an animal welfare farrowing system for the free farrowing which can be used for conventional and organic operations. The sow can be isolated in the feeding area to ensure the safe care of the piglets.
On its well-attended trade show stand, Schauer presented the further developments which further improve the functionality or energy efficiency of the systems in the area of feeding systems. The topic of the automatic provision of the pigs can also be resolved excellently by Schauer with the new Spotmix Welfare.
